Wow, what a difference.
With a speedometer app on my smart phone, I would get to about 42/43 mph with 5.83s and the motor sounded like it was hurting.
Same speedo app, with 4.89s…….55 mph and the motor is not screaming as much, and with 85/190 in the transmission and transfer case, the gear whine is less, and over all its quieter.
However, I did find out I stripped out a stud mounting the third member to the axle case. And OF COURSE its the bottom one, which is causing a pretty good oil leak. And the piñon seal is leaking in this third member as well. So next week I will go to a local bearing house and order two National seals, and two speedy sleeves for the yokes.
Im debating on heli coil in the stripped stud so I can still drive it til I swap axles, or put the truck out of service and go for the axle swap.. Im short funds to get all I need for the axle swap, and my luck lately Id end up needing more stuff than I plan on.
The running board is back from the blaster today, and I got a coat or two of Duplicolor bead liner on it. The bracket idea suggested by Clark worked on one bracket, but the other two went past level, so tomorrow Ill hafta play with different spacers to get it level with the one that worked fine.
