Unfortunately, very few guys have or need the tools necessary to mic a cylinder bore. Even if you beg, borrow or steal the equipment, it takes awhile to develop the feel necessary for accurate measurements.

Given the ring gap, I would say he needs to go up a size or two in pistons and he's already at 40 over.
