My parents built their deck out of clear heart old-growth redwood, and it lasted for 30+ years in western Washington. They got 20' clear redwood 1x4s to use for lawn edging. They covered the whole house with 1x12 beaded T&G clear redwood siding. It's still like new. Clear old growth redwood is unobtainium today, at any price. There are a few NOS remnants offered on ebay for about as much money as walnut. Some of that stuff has growth rings so fine you need a magnifying glass to see them. In another 2000 years they might be ready for a second cutting in those forests.
