They're down to 1-1/2 by 3-1/2 nowadays, and some of the scantier ones (probably milled green) measure in at 1-3/8 x 3-3/8. Of course in my grandpa's day they slashed all the hemlock and burned it, even if it was old-growth, and they didn't take anything out of the woods that was less than 12" on the small end. I should post the picture of him going up a spar tree and topping it. Probably 200' up in the air, and the top that he's standing on is still 4' across. He did a job salvage-logging the Tillamook burn, and it would take half a dozen loads to get ONE tree out of the woods.
