i can't find the vin could it have rusted away?

is there any other place on the frame it would be located? we looked on the drivers side and passangers side right above the axle could it have rusted away? the placard on the door is to a 50 2wd power wagon when we ran the numbers but this is a 4wd with origanal pto and front and rear dif. some one please help me it is killing me. and if anyone knows a Chas A. Covic who owned a chemical control company let me know we found the name on the doors and a list of services on the bed along with a 5 digit phone number.
