On a 318 you should not need more than 500CFM . My slant six is 232 cubic inches , I am running the smallest 4bl i could find 390 Holley - i had to change the squirters , needless acelerater pump and the jet size to get it dialed in .
Still need to tweak it a tad more but i need a tach before I can dial it in any better .
Do the math - there are several methods but the results are quite close .
