The only gas heater I knew of was the one for the M43 ambulance. I know the larger M-series vehicles had a fuel-fired heater kit that installed in the battery compartment, with the batteries relocated to under the passenger seat. Its purpose was to keep the engine warm for cold-weather operations, not to heat the passenger compartment. It had a pump that circulated engine coolant through it, and also a deal to blow the heater's exhaust into a shroud under the oil pan to keep the oil warm. I've never heard of anything like that for the M37, but I wouldn't be surprised if they made one.
