Yes I am spoiled in that respect, although you have the nicer summer weather. Today around 90 with high humidity ;)
I am pretty good friends with the man at the sawmill. His family are Mennonites (our County has Mennonite as well as Amish communities). He is third generation. Uses an old GM diesel and a 5 foot diameter circular blade.
He really liked the PW when I drove it over to see him. He is a buggy Mennonite but appreciates old iron.
I had nearly all my wood for a horse barn, a 2 car garage with loft and two 24X48 machine sheds cut from my own trees; mostly Loblolly Pine or Oak (joists, rafters, studs) and Yellow Poplar (siding). The Loblolly is almost as strong as Oak in some respects. Significantly heavier that the "spruce/pine/fir" from the west coast that is sold in the big retailer places.
I have dried and then used a lot of "green" lumber.
