Sounds like all worked well. I would suggest if you have such a situation again, connect the cable at a higher point. At least as high as you can reach. The trunk will serve more as leverage than the benefit of the weight. You could probably pull a tree over that is twice as big or more, just by hooking the cable higher. Think of the gain in adding a breaker bar.
