electronic ignition on a 49 ffpw yes or no

well got my 49 ffpw running and then it quit. Took it back to the mechanic and he came up with the same thing i did that it was not getting proper fire to the plugs. HE also said my distributor was very worn and lose. He ended up buying a rebuilt distributor from vintage power wagon and put electronic ignition on it. Got it home and it was running great after a 20 mile drive. Got back in it to back away from the garage and it just killed and wouldn't restart. Me and my other friend looked at it and it looks like the electronic ignition is not working. SDhould i have switched it or should i have left it original??? I don't want problems and want to be able todrive this dang thing. Any opinions????
