i was looking at my front axle from one of the parts trucks

are the machined areas where the ball bearings ride smooth or do they have ridges or diff. surfaces or does this mean it is worn out

ps will post the pic soon of the thicker inner axle

not sure how splines are made (cut, knurled) but why could the rest of the shaft not be the same overall thickness as the spline od
