My socket also didn't fit inside, which REALLY ticked me off since it was powder coated "for life" ha ha!
But just a little "adjustment" with a bench grinder and it was much more suitable to "work for life" it didn't hurt the strenght at all, this is a low torque nut, you tighten it all the way and then back -off an 1/8 of a turn to prevent over tightening the wheel bearing and premature wheel bearing failure. The lock tab washers keep everything in place
