As far as the MU-2 is concerned, they are all the same, from 5,000lb to 10,000lb units. The only difference is they changed the size of the shear pin, and the suggested cable size. I believe all the 1/2 ton WCs used MU series (not MU-2) winches, that have the clutch shift lever on the passenger side, rather than the driver side.
I recommend you buy the book Power Trains and Interchanges (TM9-1808C) by John Zentmyer, available through Portrayal Press, 973-579-5781. It covers all the drive train parts found in WCs, Power Wagons, and M37s, and what interchanges to what. Worth every penny.
