I posted a response to your original Forum request, but it apparently got lost in the refresh. I believe that I still have a wiring harness for a '78 Power Wagon that can have for the cost of shipping. It may be a few weeks to find it, so let me know. Your problem of starting the truck only to have it die as soon as you let off the switch is from a bad ballast resistor (the large ceramic fuse you mentioned). When cranking, the ballast resistor is bypassed and the ignition is getting full 12-volts for starting. As soon as you let off the starter, the ballast resistor goes back into the circuit and a measley 6-volts goes to your coil for full time operation. That's why it dies. It sounds like you have a short to ground between the ballast resistor and the ignition coil which causes the ballast resistor to burn out quickly. Best of luck.
