I don't understand why manufacturer's advertise "powder-coated" as if it's a good thing. Baked-on alkyd enamel, let alone any more modern paint, would be better than any powder coat I've ever seen. They use powder-coating because it has lots of manufacturing advantages, not because it's a better process or lasts longer than paint.
With powder coating they don't have nearly OSHA and EPA regulations to deal with since there's no volatile solvent, they don't have to wait for the parts to dry, and there's a lot less waste, because the electricity attracts the powder to the parts. Those are all legitimate features but they are features that benefit the manufacturer rather than the user, and they come at the price of a poor-quality coating.
