Lots of round gauges that fit the hole in the dash. I suspect that you are running too many volts for the gauge you have. Look for an imprint on the back for 1-12- or 24, us appropriate battery.

Stock, since late 50s, vehicles use an IVR, an Instrument Voltage Regulator. I makes a pulsing 3-7v, but is not often needed for aftermarket gauges.
