re sterling's posts and gm harris's response. there is a convo below about sterling removing an oil pump and reinstalling and its effect on timing. guys posted answers to the question in varying forms of completeness. i suggested that getting a manual might help with these types of procedures. i only SUGGESTED and did not state RTFM. reason i suggested it was that I have been there and done that - first time is a little tricky. it's easier with manual, with pictures showing what to do. a manual + help here + a local friend to help is the ideal way to work on these trucks. i cannot see any reason why suggesting to get a manual is a bad idea. Yes, COTM has inflamed everyone's collective sensitivity to reading a manual, searching the archives and getting tires checked, etc., but my suggestion was not meant as a slight. GM harris has 20 years of manuals on his shelf and is now a small gasoline engine expert. He obviously learned something from a manual! We need to help sterling along, and I am available to help via email or the forum - even scanning and sending the appropriate pages from MY well used manual for him. Seeing a guy struggle, burn up a wiring harness and getting frustrated is not where i want to see anyone and my suggestion was made in good faith.
