Banks barely have cash in them any more, much less silver. Several times I've asked for a couple grand in $100s to buy a truck or something and they say "Oh. I don't know if we have that much." Sometimes their excuse is "It's payday. Everybody wants cash." Well, haven't they sort of figured out by now that payday happens at regular intervals and they could keep more cash on hand for it?
I think my silver certificate says that it may be exchanged for "one dollar in silver" at any Federal Reserve bank. I wonder if that's still true? Obviously the local banks aren't Federal Reserve banks. I also wonder what "one dollar in silver" is. Would they give you a real silver dollar? Or would they give you a dollar's worth of silver at today's price? Or would they laugh, tell you to go away, and put your name on a list of anti-government nuts?
