I've never owned a non intercooled First Gen so I can't say on the pre 1991.5 trucks but the 1991.5-1993 intercooled trucks all have a computer behind the battery. The computer controls your charging, AC, CC, the OD on the auto trucks & a bunch of things that can all be eliminated & the computer thrown out if a guy wanted to spend all the time it would take to do it.
It was Dodges first venture into computers & they've been making our lives miserable ever since & putting the small corner gas station/mechanic out of business...unfortunately.
