Did they change the electrical system between 1991 and 1992? Reason I ask is that my '91 has the old triangular-shaped voltage regulator mounted on the firewall.
I recently decided that replacing a voltage regulator once per year for 22 years, and changing batteries every three years due to Chrysler's inept engineering is too much, so I took my alternator to a shop and had the man change my alternator into one with a built-in regulator. It cost around $200 for parts and labor.
Now it charges flawlessly with no surges, flickering, draining down of battery, and the old boy starts every time. I highly recommend it.
