A little confused here. The reservoir, or holding tank, on mine is the power steering pump itself. Pump is naturally above steering box and I have the hydroboost mounted on the firewall.
You can add a return port or T into a non Hydroboost pump assembly but to me it's better to get the correct pump as it has a little bigger capacity. A late 70's Chevy 1 ton 4x4 came stock with the complete system.
I primed mine by hand and yes it took a while to work the air out of the system. I turned the steering wheel LOTS of times till it was worked out WITHOUT the motor running.
Am I misunderstanding what you are asking?
