RD yes we are the same age and I remember switching from odd to even plates to get gas.
BUT back to the subject at hand. Shelf life of gas? it usually evaporated or had so much water in it from the condensation cycle(you know what that is)And what I was also referring to was the refining techniques, the LACK of cleanliness both at the refinery and during the distribution process.
I remember my Grandfather telling me stories of the crap that was found in fuel tanks, filters and carbs. He was a mechanic toolmaker and blacksmith for the Fire Department of New York City for 47 years.
He said there seemed to be a great improvement in the early 60's
