A 2001 has way too many valves, lol. In all seriousness diesels by nature run lean. They do not smoke white due to a lean condition. In fact they will not have any symptoms of a lean condition other than lack of power. White smoke is either water, cold cylinder temps, or raw fuel. You never said, does this smoke happen when the engine is up to normal operating temperature or only when it's cold?
What odor does the smoke have? (fuel or coolant)
Retarded timing can cause some raw fuel issues.
Turbo issues will not cause white smoke, blue or black smoke yes.
Specifically who modified the injectors and were they made from new cores or used cores and parts?
How many miles on the injectors and what kind of fuel? (biodiesel, veggie, road diesel, water/meth injection)?
Specifically who tested them and how?
Fuel filter issues will not cause white smoke, but possibly water in the fuel will.
With only 500 miles on the engine (assuming a freshly honed bore and new rings) the rings likely have not seated yet.
