Pulling Bell housing

Is there some trick to pulling off the bell housing on a Dodge flathead 6? We're pulling down a M37 motor and don't want to break it. But for the life of us, we cant figure out what's sticking it to the block. It'll pull back about 1/8" or so and stop.
