O/T Air Compressor

My air compressor worked fine yesterday. Does not work today. Breaker to the plug is fine and plug is hot. What should I check next? Then next? Then next? I have a craftsman multi-testor but I'm not really sure how to use it properly. Will it check capacitors? Thanks.
