There are 2 things happening in an automotive cooling system, one being electrical destruction of copper by making it one half of a battery, and the other being good old rusting.
Both are easily curable by flushing the system paying particular attention to flushing the crap out of the block, and refilling the system with antifreeze and distilled or demineralized water. The coolant industry knows this, ergo the marketing of premixed antifreeze.
The water you drink probably contains sufficient minerals to screw up both your cooling system and your battery.
As far as sacrificial anodes go in automotive systems you need to remember you're building a better battery when you install one, and something else in the system has to be the opposite pole.
