Seems like we have discussed Ospho (phosphoric acid) a lot lately. The only problem is that it might leave the surface a little acidic which may affect some paints. I don't think treating the whole truck is the way to go. On smaller areas, the Oshpho can be easily neutralized or washed off with water.
The body guy I had would just spray some two part Direct To Metal high build surfacer sealer to protect the metal.
After watching him, I do it myself. It's pretty easy to apply and simple enough to re-apply after you do any subsequent body work. Even if you are not going to do the paint prep yourself, you can spray the truck to stop flash rusting.
A $40.00 spray gun with a little larger tip is about all that's needed. The high build surfacer sealer is about $125 a gallon, but it's the first step in a paint job anyway.
If you know who is going to paint your truck, I would get advice from them as to what product to use.
