If its a "TRUE" runaway, the lever on the injection pump wont do anything to stop it. Its being fueled by some source other than the normal diesel fuel supply. Most likely its sucking engine oil or a blown turbo seals is feeding motor oil into the intake. Not likely in this case but entering a combustible atmosphere can also cause a runaway as the combustible atmosphere is the new fuel suppling the engine. Mess'n with injector fuel screws will not cause a "TRUE"
runaway.
