I make a square tubing hoop that goes from door to door and over the back window.
To get the corners to fit the cab and were hidden under the cab liner, I had to fab them out two ells and then add an inner and outer. IIRC, I used 1 1/4 130 wall. Then drilled through both sides and welded in a sleeve that was tapped for 1/16" fine harness bolts.
I figured that was about equivalent to the way modern pick ups are none.
Too bad I forgot it on my current project, now I'll have to retrofit like I did the first time I built one. Oh well, it won't be the first time I touch up a brand new paint job before it ever hits the road.
