You are lucky most rural areas around here which is 30 miles N,S,W. from FW are plagued by burglars who love unlocked buildings and homes. The gangs like to move away from the large populated areas and focus on areas with less resources you are lucky to live in an area that has no huge area that are built up like DFW Houston, San Antonio El Paso, The gas boom is re building Midland Odessa. It was really bad when the meth boom was starting I used to go to various inter service training with rural police and sheriff departments who said that had a hard and getting people to secure their belongings and record serial #s was a major priority. The people had lived for generations without any much crime although it was proably the same statiscally for the population as in a city.
