I have a W500 there is a second ring that is hard to see fist time I took them apart I searched high and low for some instructions on internet warn site and others and not any in service manual that applies to the 500 hub it has been a while since I removed so cant tell exactly how but there are two rings if my memory is working right it is on the inner piece of hub and you have to work it in because it locks in a groove in the inner piece around the edge so what appears to be the inner pieces metal surface is actually the lock ring look for a small spot where the ends are a very small gap is there and work it out of outer locking groove hope I remembered right
