I accidentally filled my multifuel M35 with gasoline last fall and it ran just as well as on diesel and had just as much power (subjectively, no dynamometer test). I did top off the tank with diesel at every opportunity though because I was told that despite what it says on the plate on the instrument panel, more that 50% gas can risk burning pistons. I did not try to compare fuel economy. The only detriment was that it was harder to start. The truck usually starts instantly even when quite cold, despite not having glow plugs. However on gasoline it took maybe 3 seconds of cranking before it would start. Air temperature ranged from the teens to thirties during this "test". A fellow I met who used to work on them in the army told my the hard starting is typical. I too am considering running gas in it deliberately when the price difference is $.40/gal like it's been at times this winter, but I'd hate to blow the engine just to save a few bucks on fuel. Maybe I'll go 50/50. Another option is to use heating oil or kerosene and hope you don't get caught. You can also mix some "clean" used motor oil in with the fuel.
