I've been lurking here for several months and learned bunches since obtaining a '52 B3 Power Wagon. This forum is a great place to hang out and I greatly appreciate the wisdom and banter.
Anyway, the time has come to pipe up and ask for a little speculation and advice. Yesterday the engine started cutting out while going up a rather steep incline, not a big problem, just a nuisance. The first thing I thought about was the fuel filter. So on the way home I picked up a new one. After installing the new filter the idle deteriorated into a babbling sputter. I went out for a run around the block and found it would go but it definitely wasn't right. Then this morning I started it up and it spit and sputtered terribly. I could only keep it turning by working the accelerator. Cold, it wasn't going anywhere. Any ideas? Could I have broke some crud loose that got sucked into the carburetor when I changed the fuel filter? If so, where should I look for the blockage? Should I think about rebuilding the carburetor or can I get by with a strategic cleaning? Or could it be some other problem altogether? Any speculation or suggestions will be appreciated.
Thanks much,
Mark.
