Just my kind of gizmo. I don't have anything that old. My oldest genny is a 1958 5 kW unit with a water-cooled 4-cylinder 65 cu in hercules flathead motor. I spent way too much time getting it working. I'm not sure what the "capacitor" is for on your unit. I can try to help you figure it out, but I need a better idea how it's wired up. It should have some kind of voltage regulator, not just a "capacitor". I've seen various regulators on those old sets, some like an automotive type, some with a magnetic amplifier, and some with a coil that pulls in maybe 8 different resistances step by step. I would guess yours is pretty simple. Are you sure this "cap" is bad? Any numbers off anything would help.
