At the shop I work in, I have instituted the "Joe's floor jack test" to determine if any potential purchase is suitable for use in the welding shop. The test is: if you can pick it up off the floor, and put it in the truck by yourself without serious back injury, then it is NOT worth buying. The heavy ones last a lot longer, and nobody ever "borrows" or takes them home after hours.
