Yes. We hear them often, yelping and carrying on. Our friends down the road lost a cat to them. Several years ago we had a large, very powerful German Shorthair Pointer who roamed at will. It was not nearly as populated here 30 years ago. He came home one time with puncture wounds all over. A visit to the vet caused him to conclude that he had been attacked by at least 2 or 3 coyotes. He was very fortunate to get away and get home.
And we, as Paul, have our yard fenced where the dogs are confined in back of our house. I have seen Coyotes lurking in the trees beyond the fence and the dogs sometimes go wild barking at something in the night. (bear? moose? coyote?) Another possibility is wolves. A friend caught one on a game camera in his yard only a few miles north of where we live.
