The 20,000 mile cleanout is news to me, but it makes sense. What do you think of pouring water down the carburetor while keeping the throttle part way open so it doesn't stall? I've tried that old-time method (about a quart poured through in a thin stream) and nothing bad happened to the engine, but I have no idea if it really removed the carbon or not.
