i was talking with Pepe about power plants as we spun the 237 by hand about the low compression on the flat heads
he said it was a good thing and why they have so much grunt at low rpms and run so well at low rpms
the 350s don't get any grunt until they start spinning tires as you try to spin out of the hole you are in where as the flathead just walks on out
giving the stock gearing in a pw it really is more of a rock crawler than highway friendly
he like everyone else has gone the full round on transplants, started with a chev 250 which he said workded good in the truck but the 230 had more torque at lower rpms
then he went the 350 route which he did not like then he went some diesel which he did not like and now he has the cummins v6 which he likes and says works well with the gearing but all in all the flathead is the best motor for the truck due to it's light weight to high torque ratio, the other stuff works good but not as good when push comes to shove
