Yeah, even sadder, and this really is tragic, is the story about an electrical engineering professor at my university who was working on a piece of electronic equipment, and electrocuted himself. For all I know, he may have been very skilled at this sort of thing, and just made a mistake that one time, but on the other hand, he may have understood all of the theory, but didn't know how to actually work on a real piece of equipment.
There's definitely a difference between knowing the physical concepts and math that describe why things behave the way they do, versus the "nuts and bolts" of how things are put together in a practical, hands-on sense.
