The end at the right clamps onto the splined shaft of the steering box. The left part of the joint is integral with the steering shaft. There is a pin through the bottom of the solid steering shaft that holds two rectangular bars that slide up and down in the slots in the drawn steel housing. Switching to a different type of joint would require machining the bottom end of the steering shaft to something different.
