We don't fault an engine builder for not inventing a new process for making steel from iron ore. Everything is built on those who have gone before. I agree there's a lot of unnecessary bloat in many modern programs, especially Microsoft products, but there are also still programmers who write tight code that doesn't rely on a huge morass of library files like MS does. Besides, one good thing about re-using code is that the longer it's been used, the less likely it is to be buggy.
