If I go with building a flatbed until I can find and afford a real bed, I'd like to hear from you all where you think the best place to put the spare would be. I've ruled out under the frame somewhere on account of the weight of it. Trying to swap tires by hand on the side of the road in the mud is bad enough.
While not trying to sound like a complete pussy, having to get a one of these heavy tires from under the truck by myself is not something I would look forward to. I could actually foresee a minor back or leg injury somehow.
I was thinking about making the bed set back a little from the cab, and slide the tire upright between the cab and the bed on one side, and a Gerry can on the other side using cutom racks/cribs. Suggestions?
