Alcohol is hydroscopic. It attracts water. Sort of like brake fluid.... The airplane folks are smart, and they don't want the drama of dealing with water in the fuel at 10,000 feet...
In all of my small engines, and anything that sits with fuel in it longer than two months gets marine grade stable and avgas...
I do wonder if the lead will hurt the modern engines, but I've had carbs plug up with jello like muck after one winter of sitting. No more of that for me!
