Saturday, I went for the battle against the stuck 318, in trying to get the bellhousing, flywheel, clutch and pressure plate off. It took me three hours, but it's done. Believe it or not, once I figured out exactly what the heck I was doing, it only took me fifteen minutes to get it all off.
I started by removing all of the plugs, then pouring transmission fluid down the intake (the carburetor had be off of the engine for probably 20 years) and the plug holes. I cut the belts off the engine, and got out the breaker bar. The alternator pulley actually crumbled when I pulled the belt off of it- I KNEW it wasn't going to turn over or break loose. The exhaust manifolds had been off for that long, as well. It was a boat anchor, for sure. After stripping the threads on either the bolt or the crank (bolt, probably), I gave up on that idea. Next up was looking to see about removing the oil pan and dropping the crank down... Nah.
I crawled under the truck and sat up. I pried the bellhousing off of the mounts, it separated from the back of the block, and I then took off the slave cylinder and clutch fork. I stuck my hand inside the bellhousing, and could reach every bolt with the ratchet. Within ten minutes, it all was on the ground. I had stressed over nothing, really. Tada! Thanks for the help, guys!
