OT Dodge Automatic Transmission

My Dodge seems to be acting up lately when under slight load. For example, going up a steep hill it keeps searching for a gear between 2nd and 3rd but just cycles back-and-forth between them. Is this a common issue? I've had a couple people warn against advice to "tighten the bands" as this is almost never the problem.

What are your thoughts?
