should I just replace this "C" clip in the 420?

Hello: I'm rebuilding my NP420 and have read a lot about this "C" clip that holds this gear on breaking. Mine was not broken, but should I replace it anyway as insurance, or maybe assume the old one worked well for 50+ years, it should be ok another 50...

The clip I am talking about is to the left side of this pick that came off the gear in the pic.
