According to the manual there are several different sizes, and they set the free play of the gear on the shaft, which is supposed to be like nothing. The kit I got from transmission exchange had all the bearings and gaskets and seal, but it did not have this snap ring. It is a very sturdy lookiing snap ring, not the type you get form the hardware store.
