I've used Weller guns for years and have found that poor contact with the heating tip often causes intermitant problems with the bulbs. I remove the tip (might need replacement), clean the sockets and wire brush the ends of the tip, replace the tip, then tighten the retaining nuts. Often times it makes a nice healthy sounding buzz, lights stay steady and the heat comes on faster and hotter after doing this.
