What am I missing?q

I have managed to make one good spotlight out of 3 or 4 junkers to put back in my WDX. I have connected 12 volts to the hot lead on the spotlight, grounded the spotlight housing, and I have 12 volts at the pig tails that connect to the lamp itself. I have tested the lamp and it lights up just as it should. When I connect the pigtails to the lamp, no light!!?? How simple can this be?
