Thanks Tom. The mystery is, I am getting 12 volts through the spotlight, from the wire at the handle to the wire at the lamp housing.
When I put 12 volts to the terminals on the lamp, outside of the lamp housing, and not connected to the spotlight wires, the lamp lights. When I connect the lamp to the wires on the spotlight, which are live, the lamp does not light, even though the terminals on the lamp show voltage is there.
